Kimmy stood, went over to Bobby on the
other side of the table, and playfully punched him
in the arm. “If you found treasure, I want to see it.”
Her voice cracked with emotion thinking about the
legend her grandmother Culver had told her.
“Besides, how fair would that be if you were rich,
and I wasn’t?” Kimmy shook her head. “No way.
Women like money too much. I’m willing to go
with you Bobby.”
Bobby smiled, then stood, looked at his other
two friends, and watched them laugh.
“You two run along. Go find the treasure.
We’ll be at the roller rink later, if you want to catch
up.” Dave told them.
“Okay, fine. Have it your way. But if what
Bobby’s telling us is the truth, you’ll both lose.”
Kimmy was serious.
“We’ll take our chances.” Manning laughed again.
Then Bobby looked at Kimmy. “You ready
then?”
“Yeah, Bobby I am. I’ve always wanted to find
hidden treasure, so Bobby Martin lead the way to
my richness.” Kimmy smiled at him, felt her heart
flutter with the excitement of finding an old chest,
and wondered if it was the one her grandmother
told her about the previous year.
“Well, we’ll have to walk.” Bobby told her.
“I know that silly. We’re not old enough to
drive yet.” Kimmy was still smiling when she
followed Bobby out of Taco Bell.
“How far is the warehouse from here?” Kimmy
asked Bobby.
“I don’t know. Several blocks at least.”
“Good thing we’ve eaten lunch already, huh?”
“Yeah, now come on. I want to hurry up, and
get back there. I don’t want anyone else to find it.”
Kimmy saw the serious expression on her
friends face, and knew at that moment, he was
telling the truth.
