As detective Theodore Gill got the call about another
murder, he threw his light on top of his vehicle, and
sped over to the area.
As he got out, several officers’s raced over to him
and gave him the same M.O. he had received the last
six times. The last six murders were all the same.
This time as he approached the scene, he pulled out
three cameras, and started taking pictures of the dead
man, lying naked in the middle of the street.
Then he looked at one of the officers.
“Did he have I.D.?” Gill asked.
“None. Just like the last six times, sir. No I.D.” The
officer looked at the detective.
“Very well.” Gill nodded, then continued to analyze
the scene.
His mind was going over the last six cases he had
investigated. All of them were the same. The only
difference was Gill never knew if the victims would be
men or women. He had seen both.
As he finished with the initial examination of the
body, he stood, looked around, pulled off his gloves,
and then approached John Grady, his partner in crime
scene investigating.
Grady nodded at Gill. “Tell me you found something
a little bit different this time, Grady.”
“I can’t do that. It’s exactly the same as the other six
murders we’ve had in less then two weeks.” His voice
was grim.
“Did you contact the morgue, and put them on high
alert this time?” Gill wanted to know.
“Yeah, I did. But you know, I did that the last several
times, and the same thing keeps happening.” Grady
told him.
“Yeah, but did you tell the morgue that if it happens
again, it’ll be their ass on the line this time?”
“I don’t know if I said those exact words, but I know I
warned them. I told them not to fuck this up. It’s bad
enough we’ve got to explain to this town what’s going
on, yet alone try to explain the other. So for now we
keep it under wraps.” Grady was firm.
“I agree, but what if there’s a leak?” Gill asked.
“Then we know it’s an inside job, and start looking
at the department.” Grady told him staring at the scene
before him.
“Do you think this time it’s going to work?” Gill was
frustrated.
“I honestly don’t know, but I will tell you this. By
morning, we’ll have the answers, and then someone
better have a good explanation for what’s happened,
or there’s going to be jobs opening up in several
departments.”
“I hear that, but in the mean time?” Gill raised a brow
in question.
“In the meantime, we wait, and see what the morning
brings.” Grady told Gill, then he walked away.
The killer watched the scene before him, and
smiled. He knew they would never catch him. He was
the master of disguise, the one who got away with
every thing.
He was also the one who decided what the cops in
this screwed up little town got. A trick or a treat.
